UA&P Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Amado Saquido laid the ground for discussions with his opening speech, where he talked about the legal mandate of the Data Privacy Act, its importance, and the broad strokes of how we as the UA&P has responded to it.

After Dr. Saquido, Mr. Sam Jacoba of the National Association of Data Protection Officers of the Philippines spoke in detail about the key points of Data Privacy Act of 2012 and Need for Awareness through Education and Training.

As the head of UA&P ‘s new Data Privacy Office, Dr Henry Ligot then spoke in detail about what the Data Privacy Act of 2012 means for UA&P and its various stakeholders.

To close out the afternoon sessions, Dr. Jose Maria Mariano spoke about the beginnings of a new research initiative focused on Big Data and Society, which looks at how UA&P can lead the way towards a positive approach to data protection compliance, rather than more acquiescence to the letter of the law.

After a lively open forum in which questions came both from audience members coming to the microphone, and others sending in anonymous questions via google chat, Dr. Ligot announced that UA&P would also be organizing a UA&P Conference on Data Privacy, tentatively scheduled some time in the 2nd quarter of 2020.
