The recently concluded Philippine Investment Roadshow in Spain provided a platform for key Philippine firms and Spanish counterparts to explore business opportunities and strengthen economic partnerships. This private-sector initiative aligns with the Philippine government’s push to attract more Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) into the country.

The roadshow, held from October 9 to 11, 2023, was spearheaded by PCSE Professorial Chair Holder Dr. Bernardo Villegas and a delegation of prominent Filipino business leaders and corporate executives. The event took place in two major Spanish cities—Barcelona and Madrid—fostering discussions on investment prospects across key industries.

The roadshow commenced in Barcelona with a plenary session at IESE Business School, attended by 14 Spanish business representatives and 16 Filipino delegates. The discussions focused on trade expansion, investment collaboration, and sectoral opportunities. On the second day, the Philippine Consulate General’s office in Barcelona hosted an interactive session with 25 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), providing a space for direct engagement between Spanish and Filipino entrepreneurs.

On the third day, the delegation moved to Madrid, where a second plenary session was held at IESE Business School. This session gathered 25 Spanish counterparts and 21 Filipino delegates, further deepening bilateral business ties and investment discussions.

One of the key milestones of the roadshow was the signing of a Declaration of Collaboration, signifying the commitment of both Spanish and Filipino business representatives to pursue long-term investment and trade partnerships. This formal agreement underscores the shared vision of fostering economic growth through increased FDIs in the Philippines.

Additionally, a significant outcome of the roadshow was the establishment and official launch of Club Comercio Ibero-Filipino, a business club dedicated to promoting commercial ties between the Philippines and Spain. Beyond business development, the club will also engage in social initiatives, including financial literacy programs, sports development (particularly soccer), and mental health awareness campaigns.

The success of the Philippine Investment Roadshow in Spain marks a significant step toward reinforcing economic relations and opening new avenues for collaboration between the two nations. As the Philippines continues to position itself as a prime investment destination, initiatives like these pave the way for stronger global partnerships and economic growth.
