MOU Signing Ceremony of UA&P with Capitol University UA&P President, Dr. Jose Maria Mariano and Atty. Casimiro Juarez Jr., President of Capitol University (CU), Cagayan de Oro, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on May 21, 2014 at UA&P.
CU was founded by Madame Laureana San Pedro Rosales is now owned by Atty Casimiro Juarez and Dr. Fe Rosales Juarez. They are the parents of Laurice Juarez and Paul Juarez, both UA&P graduates of Humanities and Education, respectively. The University has PACUCOA level 3 accredited programs in Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Education, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Nursing, Marine Engineering, and Nautical. CU College of Maritime Education is Level III Accredited by PACUCOA and duly accredited by the DET NORSKE VERITAS, a prestigious international accrediting body. It is also the site of the Museum of Three Cultures which features the three dominant cultures of Northern Mindanao: the Bisaya-speaking Christians, the indigenous peoples, and the Maranao Muslim.
CU took the lead in responding to the needs of the victims of typhoon Sendong in December 2011 and served as the venue for ABS CBN’s distribution of relief goods. In 2012, CU hosted the CRC Seminar of Environment and Climate Change conducted by Dr . Theta Ponce. Dr. Fe Juarez’s talk is included in the CRC Reference Material for Teachers entitled the Changing Face of Environment, Energy and the Universe.
In February this year, Dr. Veronica Ramirez conducted OFW research at the Region 10 OWWA Regional Welfare Office assisted by the CU Education students.
The MOU will provide opportunities for the two institutions to conduct collaborative research studies in the areas of migration and Overseas Filipino work, maritime education, character education and related fields of study which are of research interest for both academic institutions.
