Launching of The Book of Virtues and Values
Last March 15, The Center for Research and Communication (CRC) held the launch of Dr. Bernardo Villegas’ latest book, The Book of Virtues and Values (3rd Edition), at Fully Booked in Bonifacio High Street, Taguig City. The book expounds on countless human and supernatural virtues discussed in previous editions and underlines the need to build a “civilization of love” in the business and economic sectors of society. The book also puts emphasis on charity or “the love for God and for one’s neighbor, especially the underprivileged,” which, according to Dr. Villegas, is the most important human virtue.
The well-attended launch was graced by the presence of Spanish Ambassador Jorge Domecq, New Zealand Ambassador Rueben Levermore and Chilean Ambassador Roberto Mayorga, who, in his comments about the book, describes it as “a complete analysis, profound and detailed, about virtues and values in their different personal and social aspects.”
“As Dr. Villegas states, we are in the middle of history, or perhaps in an endless history aspiring to attain a civilization of love” the ambassador said. “Dr. Villegas invites us in his great book of Virtues and Values to move through it with faith, hope and most importantly, charity.”
Although the book is now in its third edition, Dr. Villegas said that practically all the articles within are new and that the content has been enriched by the inclusion of the idea of “gratuitousness” as referred to in the encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI entitled Charity in Truth.
“I have used this demanding concept of gratuitous love extensively in redefining the very mission of business,” he said, “which must go beyond the maximization of profit for the benefit of the stockholders to embrace a selfless love for other stakeholders.”#
